Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there and all the moms filling in for dads.

This morning Patrick drove to meet his family for his grandmother’s memorial service, and I stayed behind with the pups. I’m thankful he made it there safely, and I’m glad he was able to go and be with his family.

I decided to paint our bedroom this morning, thinking it would be done a in a couple hours. The actual painting didn’t take that long, but then I had to change out the curtain rod and hang a mirror and move jewelry off a shelf that’s leaving the room. And then since I was cleaning up, I decided to do a little extra dog cleaning after last night. Nothing like getting up at 2:00 am to clean up after wild animals in your bedroom, and that’s not a euphemism. Barley is back on the summer hunt for opossums and last night he hid one behind a fallen pillow next to our bed. Ugh.

So I spent all day on our bedroom, but the room looks good and I’m thankful for that, especially the cleaning part. I’m also thankful that my friend Ann invited me over for dinner, so I got a good meal and good conversation. It felt good to get a lot done today.

Patrick’s garden is growing quickly! I like walking through it and seeing how lovely the plants look as they grow. I also like how they taste. Haha. And the lettuce has been good so far! I’m always thankful for the nature in our own backyard.

Well, my 4 hour workday turned into 6 because I was interrupted all week and couldn’t finish a spreadsheet my boss needed for Monday. I stayed late to get it done and wrap up a few other things, like cleaning my desk. I hate coming back after a weekend to the disarray that inevitably happens during the week.

But I still got out of work early enough to enjoy the perfect weather and go to an early dinner with Patrick. I’m thankful for that. And for how happy the pups were when I got home. And for the birds who nest in the trees by our deck and sing their upbeat songs. And for late sunsets.

I’m thankful for cutting out of work early and buying my group a drink at a nearby pub. It’s been a bit stressful at work lately, so it was nice to just relax, chat and laugh for a bit.

I’m also thankful for sunshine, ice cream, and working air conditioning.

Man…take a few days off work and it’s like you’re punished for it. Today was busy! And it started with a voicemail of a customer complaining about an employee. It may be Tuesday, but it certainly felt like a Monday. However, I’m thankful the day kinda flew by and it ended well.

Our flight home this morning was delayed slightly by some engine problems, so I’m extra grateful we made it home safely. Traveling is exhausting, but I’m surprised by how tired I was all day, so it was good to get home and get caught up on the pups with Patrick’s dad. It sounded like they also had a great weekend, albeit a much more relaxing one. I’m thankful for that. And for the fact that I took tomorrow off work. Maybe I’ll catch up on some sleep.

Today we took a ferry to Salem and spent the day wandering around the town, checking out the museum and shopping. We got caught in a downpour after lunch, but luckily we were headed back to the ferry anyway. It was a wet and cold ride back to Boston, though. And after another really yummy dinner, we called it an early night. It’s been a fun, but exhausting few days, and I’m thankful for a good vacation exploring a new place.

It’s our 5th anniversary! We had a great day wandering around Boston, even though it drizzled off and on all day. We walked more of the Freedom Trail and toured some of the buildings, including Paul Revere’s home. Then we had a great dinner at a local spot before going to a ghost pub crawl. I’m so thankful for a good day, for Patrick, and for five years married.

The courthouse.
The stairwell in the old meeting house.
We stopped and ate a Mike’s Pastry treat in a small park while it was raining.
The courtyard at Paul Revere’s home.
I’m not sure if his reaction is from a day of walking or five years married.
The longest running pub.
