I’m thankful for this good boy who turned 8 today. Look at that sweet face.

It was so warm and sunny today that I was able to open the doors for a little bit. I’m thankful I was able to air out the house while I was finishing up laundry and vacuuming. While it’s great to have these moments of warmth, it also makes me wish for Spring. Of course, days like today just remind us that it is coming!
I’m thankful today for getting a jump on my packing for my cruise. And for a relaxing bath, which was needed, although I aspire to be able to relax as well as Barley one day.

Today I’m also thankful for my friend Teresa whose birthday is today. She’s been my work and cancer cohort. She’s one of the hardest working people I know. She is also sweet, smart, and strong. I’m grateful for our friendship.
What a week. I’m so thankful it’s the weekend and a long weekend at that. And since it’s cold again, it’s a good night for a hot chocolate.

This sunset tonight. How can you not be thankful for this loveliness?!
Today I had a yearly checkup with a new nurse practitioner since my regular doctor is always booked. I like my doctor, but I think in the last 10 years, I’ve only seen her a handful of times I’ve needed an appointment. That’s ok. The nurse practitioners I have seen have all been great. And the one today was super sweet, so I’m thankful for that. I’m also thankful that all the regular yearly tests she ordered have come back normal.
I have a couple more preventative tests to get out of the way that I put off last year. Ugh. It’s probably not shocking, but after one cancer diagnosis, every preventative screening feels stressful. I’m not going to worry too much, but I will definitely feel better once they’re behind me.
I’m thankful my busy work day went by quickly, my finger is less bruised, and our evening was relaxed.
Happy Valentine’s Day! I know it’s just a “Hallmark” holiday, but it’s kind of nice to have a day to show folks how much you care about them. Plus who doesn’t love flowers and chocolate?! I’m thankful today for my family and good friends, whom I love. And especially Patrick, who is always there for me.

Super Bowl Sunday. Or as we like to say, Puppy Bowl Sunday, which is a cuter game where both sides are winners. Team Fluff! Team Ruff! And this year Snoop Dogg was part of both games. I was hoping Martha Stewart would make a cameo in the Super Bowl halftime show. How funny would that have been?
I didn’t get a lot of physical activity done today, thanks again, Chance.

Thankfully, though, I got done what I needed to, and we enjoyed the games through the halftime show. And although my hand is stiff and sore, it’s not as painful as it looks. Hopefully it gets better quickly.
Chance is a jerk. We were busy all day with errands and stuff so I felt bad when he seemed bored just before dinner. It was cold today, and we didn’t go out with them in the backyard. So when Chance followed me downstairs and stared at me as I got on the treadmill, I decided I’d take him for a quick walk around the block instead. Then do the same with Barley after dinner.
I bundled up and our walk started out fine. I did some fast walking since he was excited and kept pulling a bit. We got 3/4 of the way around the block when we came up on a woman walking a fluffy black dog. They would walk a few paces and then stop for a while. I had to slow down a little to try to keep some distance. Our dogs are sweet, but they aren’t used to other dogs and usually just bark a lot when they see them. It’s embarrassing because we all dropped out of obedience school.
We were doing good until we were almost home. Then the woman with the black dog stopped and didn’t move for a while. I crossed the street in hopes we could just hurry by and get to our driveway. But Chance started barking. And pulling. In my attempt to get in front of him and divert his attention, he tripped me, I stumbled forward, turned and fell. Hard. My hat fell over my face. In my struggle to get up, the woman with that dang black dog asked if I was ok. I mumbled I was fine as I high-stepped Chance, who was suddenly cooperative, into the house.
Let’s just say I was so frustrated that my Apple Watch chose that moment to record my “exercising.” And because I fell awkwardly on my hand, my pinky finger is swollen and a little bruised. I’m thankful it wasn’t anything more. And at least Chance had the decency to look guilty. I hope our neighbors enjoyed the show because it will be a while before I walk him around the block again.
