These silly guys make me laugh, even though they continue to bring critters into the house. This morning the possum was in our closet. Patrick said it looked like the same one because it was missing a tuft a hair on its back and didn’t seem overly bothered by the dogs. This second visit earned it a trip to a nearby park. I hope it finds new friends.
I’m grateful once again that this possum survived, and I fervently hope another does not take its place. I’m also grateful for a relatively non-stressful Monday at work, an engaging new book I started tonight, and limoncello almonds that are a lovely treat.
It was my first Friday off with our summer work hours, although I did attend a 7:30 am Teams meeting with colleagues across the globe. Luckily it was short. Then Patrick and I went to a neighboring town to get goats milk soap that we had discovered weeks ago. They make it from the milk of their own goats herd and embed a natural loofah into it. We ran a few other errands, but since we’re back to wearing masks and being careful, we didn’t wander too much. When we got back, I finally finished cleaning up my craft room. Yay! I’m thankful for a productive first Friday off work.
It’s our anniversary today, and Patrick had these flowers delivered to me. How sweet is that? Four years. I got him nothing but my gratitude. It’s not that I didn’t think about a gift, but getting him gifts is SO HARD. He doesn’t think so, but he has specific tastes. I can’t get him just any old thing, so I ended up with nothing. I’m terrible.
Since we are trying to be careful now before my surgery next week, we celebrated by having dinner outside at a favorite restaurant. At the end of our meal, our waitress surprised us with a dessert. It was delicious!
I’m thankful for our years together, and I’m thankful for a lovely evening in perfect weather.
I spoke too soon. The pups woke me at 2 am whining to get outside because the doggie door was locked. I woke Patrick because I wasn’t sure if I had slept through an incident or if he had locked them out at bedtime. It was bedtime, so we let them out thinking they needed to relieve themselves. No. They saw something and wanted to play. They quickly got called back in and the door got locked.
Tonight we found a dove in the basement.
Sigh. It’s going to be a long summer.
Once again, I’m grateful the dove was still alive and we were able to put it safely outside again. I’m also thankful for these crazy pups who keep us on our toes.
Today was the first day of our summer hours at work, which is working 10 hours Monday through Thursday and having Friday off. I love the idea of having Fridays off, but working 10 hours, not so much. I knew I’d have to get up earlier than normal, and I’m not a big morning person. As it is, I get to work at 7:00, which is plenty early for me.
Even though I’m going to work from home these couple of weeks prior to my surgery, I wasn’t really looking forward to getting up extra early. Luckily for me, Chance helped with that this morning. We woke to him pawing at something in the corner, behind my leaning mirror. At first, I figured it was a spider, which would be bad enough. But no. It was this little guy.
That’s a baby possum. A possum. This is how I imagine he ended up in the corner of our bedroom. Chance discovered him in the backyard during his early morning bathroom run and carried him in through the doggie door. Maybe he played with him for a while downstairs until the possum played dead before carrying him to our room. I suspect Chance then jumped up on our bed with him at which point he dropped him, and the little guy scampered to his hiding spot behind my mirror. Or maybe they planned it all as an elaborate alarm for my first early, early morning.
I’m thankful the possum was unharmed and Patrick was able to safely carry it outside and beyond our fenced yard. I’m also thankful I was able to start my work day at 6:00 since I was already up. That being said, I really hope we don’t have a repeat of this again. I reminded Chance that he needs to ask permission before inviting friends into our house, especially to spend the night. He seems bummed, but I think he understands.
I’m tired and sore. Since it rained yesterday, I wasn’t able to do work in my storage unit. That made today the day. I went over at 9:30 and didn’t finish until 1:30. At one point, I called Patrick to bring me the white tape and Sharpie I forgot to bring so I could label totes. After discussing with him my plan, he then went and bought some shelves which helped me organize things even better. It will help tremendously to have everything labeled and grouped together.
I’m super thankful for Patrick’s help and to have this checked off my to-do list. It’s been on it a long time. Hopefully now I can sell more in my booth!
I’m thankful today for getting my booth reorganized. And for Patrick’s help dragging stuff into the building. And for getting some of the house cleaning done in-between.
